Styling with Dopamine Decor: My Favourite Lilac and Teal Room Ideas

I am always looking for ways to make a home feel more joyful, and lately, I've been completely obsessed with the idea of 'dopamine decor.' It’s all about using colour, pattern, and texture to create a space that genuinely lifts your mood.

My latest design obsession revolves around a dreamy colour duo: soft lilac and pastel teal. I think they are the perfect starting point for a happy, vibrant home that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I wanted to put together some ideas to show you how you could use this palette in different rooms.

For the Living Room: A Bold, Sunny Arch

I love the idea of using a soft lilac on the walls as a base. It's calming but so much more interesting than a standard neutral.

But the real game-changer for me is adding a bold, painted arch in a sunny yellow. It's such a high-impact look for minimal effort and can be a great way to frame a TV or a piece of art. When you pair these colours with a rich teal couch, the whole look just feels so balanced and full of life.

For the Dining Room: An Eclectic & Arty Mix

A dining room should be buzzing with life and conversation, and I think the decor should reflect that! For this space, my idea is to wrap the walls in a warm, soft pink. It feels so inviting and instantly makes a room feel more intimate and special.

The key to making it feel unique is to mix, not match. Instead of a uniform set, I love the idea of bringing in patterned dining chairs that pick up on the teals and greens from the other room concepts. This is how you create that cohesive flow!

For the Kitchen: Playful Backsplash & Cabinets

Why shouldn't a kitchen be the most fun room in the house? I designed this concept with lilac cabinets as the star of the show. It's unexpected and instantly makes the space feel custom and creative.

To complement them, I'd use a shimmering pastel teal tile in a scalloped shape. It adds a touch of mermaid-core whimsy that I love. The whole idea is to create a space that makes you smile while you're making your morning coffee.

For the Master Bedroom: Go Big with Wallpaper

For a bedroom, I wanted to create a look that felt both energetic and restful. My idea is to go big with a bold, abstract wallpaper on a feature wall.

A print that has flecks of lilac, teal, and yellow connects it to the design ideas in the other rooms. To keep it from feeling overwhelming, I’d pair it with a solid-coloured velvet headboard and simple lilac wardrobes. It’s all about that perfect balance.

For a Guest Bedroom: A Sweet Checkerboard Wall

A guest room is the perfect place to try something a bit more playful. Here, I'm loving a checkerboard pattern on the wall using pastel green and a soft pink.

This concept pulls in the same joyful spirit from the rest of the house but gives it a unique, geometric twist. A sunny yellow bed frame and floral bedding would make any guest feel instantly welcome and happy.

For the Bathroom: Colourful Tiles & Fixtures

I think bathrooms are the perfect small spaces to experiment with bold design! You can go all out without committing to a huge room.

Here, the concept is to drench the space in pastel teal tile. Taking it from floor to ceiling creates such a luxe, spa-like feel. I'd pair that with a bright yellow vanity and maybe even a pink sink! It’s unexpected, vibrant, and turns a utilitarian room into a true escape.

I hope these ideas show how a consistent colour palette can create a home that feels both exciting and cohesive. It's all about finding what colours make you happy and not being afraid to use them!
